EL: *wakes up to sound of rain on the roof* Ah, thank you, weathergods.

RADIO: *plays soothing music*

EL: *gets up* Waitaminute... something is different here.

HUNTSMAN SPIDER: Um, hi.

EL: *blinkblink*

SPIDER: So yeah, it's really wet out there and can I crash at your place?

EL: You are very lucky that I'm not awake enough to freak out about this. Not on the bed. Wall, and stay where I can see you.

SPIDER: waaaaaaaah why do I get no love?

EL: I CAN SEE YOUR FANG THINGIES FROM HERE!

SPIDER: IT'S NOT MY FAULT I WAS BORN LIKE THIS! Or hatched. Whatever. El's the scribe, and she doesn't know biology.

EL: I am not awake enough for this. *goes off to get coffee*

What is probably happening right now:

SPIDER: Hey guys, she said it was cool if we crashed here! Party at El's place!

O_O

Oh. My. God. Let me just say... you have no idea how arachnophobic I am. Granted, I've gotten a bit better as I've gotten older, but there was a time when I refused to sleep in my bedroom for months, because I saw a spider on my bed. A small spider. Like, no bigger than a dollar coin.

I don't even want to contemplate what a Huntsman spider is. So of course, I just wikipedia'ed it.

I HAVE NEVER SEEN ANYTHING MORE TERRIFYING IN MY LIFE. OhmyGodohmyGodohmyGod.

*Cries*

You are so brave.

Aw, they're not that bad. Some of them are quite cute. And stripey.* This is the first one I've seen inside for a while, actually. The rain makes them come in. They're very shy, and they don't bite unless you literally shove your hand in their face, and they're not poisonous. They just hurt for a while.

*Cuz seriously, when you live in a country with red-backs, funnelwebs, wolf spiders, the world's ten most deadly poisonous snakes, sting rays, sharks, poisonous jellyfish and blue-ring octopi, huntsmen are TAME.

But they still freak me out, and I have had a couple of close encounters with them. Normally it's Dad's job to remove them with a broom while I watch in morbid fascination from three rooms away, but he's not heeeeeeere! And won't be until tomorrow night! I may be sleeping on the couch until Thursday...

Hee!

P.S--both 'born' and 'hatched' work fine, so it's half dozen of one, six of the other.
