So a few days ago I heard from [livejournal.com profile] minviendha who heard from metafandom a rant that there are no strong women in the Silmarillion apart from Luthien, and my approximate reaction was excuse me, are we reading the same Silmarillion? And I was going to clutter up Lise's journal even further with my list of awesome Silm women, but I thought it deserved its own post, and also this might get long.

IT DID GET LONG. EPIC POST BENEATH. )
Title: Dunedenith: The Third Age
Summary: Drabbles about women of the Third Age of Middle-earth.
Characters: Béruthiel, Fíriel, Morwen Steelsheen, Gilraen, Finduilas, Ioreth.
AN: None of the characters are mine, everything belongs to Tolkien. For more information about these women, most of whom are mentioned in Appendix A, I recommend Thain's Book.

------------

I'm a firm believer in the 'reincarnated Glorfindel' theory, and after reading Unfinished Tales a fic like this was only a matter of time. I really should make a list of the rampant plotbunnies that are spawning in my head, so I can gain satisfaction by crossing them off one by one, but I'd never finish.

Title:
Singing Gold
Author: Me!
Rating: General. Just a bit of angst.
Warnings: Nothing you can't read to children, if they're Silmarillion and Unfinished Tales nerds.
Summary: Glorfindel comes across a poignant reminded of the past while in Lothlorien.

Cross-posted to [profile] discuss_realm. I couldn't resist a chance to natter on a bit about one of my favourite Tolkien women.

Title: Minor Characters: Gilraen the Fair
Word count: 781

Cross-posted to [profile] discuss_realm. Another one of my theories that deals with hair - I seem to be fixated on the stuff. All comments, debates and poking of holes in the argument are welcomed.

This has been cross-posted to [profile] discuss_realm, but since that's f-locked, I'm posting it here as well in case anyone is interested. And also because I think it's the longest post I've written that isn't a fic.

Wait, did I just answer my own question?
Two new fics in a month? How strange...

Title: The Heirs of Rohan
Rating: PG-13
Pairing: n/a
Summary: Old kings, new heirs, and the future of the Mark.
Warning: Slight sappiness at the end.
Word count: 1457
Disclaimer: Everything belongs to Tolkien. I just read Appendix A too often.
AN: This came about when I was reading about the kings of Rohan at tuckborough.net, and it mentioned that the third king lived to see the birth of his great-great-grandson. I don’t think even the Elves managed to top that, at least not any that we know. Aldor was the third king of Rohan, living to 101 years and ruling for 75 of them. Fréa, Fréawine, Goldwine and Déor are his canonical descendants, and were kings of Rohan after him. Faegennes, Beda and Edric are OCs, but fit into the canon without any major suspension of disbelief.

Title: Cygnets
Rating: PG-13
Pairing: Imrahil/His wife is rather implied by the children, but I haven’t come up with a name for her yet.
Summary: Elphir, Erchirion and Amrothos await the birth of their youngest sibling, but things don’t go exactly as expected…
Warning: Several mentions of sibling fights.
AN: [profile] b2wm sicced the Imrahil muse on me a couple of days ago, and this is one of at least four fics that spawned because of it… I wrote this at close to midnight last night (don’t panic, I’ve re-read it since then), which may be why this isn’t my normal style – it’s longer, and much more verbose, but I like it. It seems to suit Amrothos’ point of view. If you’re not familiar with the Dol Amroth clan, there’s a slight twist at the end. And I blame [profile] 50lyricsfanfic entirely for the references to Narn i Hin Húrin cropping up.

As for the characters: Elphir, Erchirion and Amrothos are Imrahil’s sons. In this fic, Elphir is twelve, Erchirion is nine, and Amrothos is five. Imrahil is forty-four, and his wife has no name or specific age as of yet, although I freely admit [profile] b2wm’s Ainaelin was a major influence.

The title: well, I couldn’t really go around calling it ‘The Birth of [Stop! Fic-spoiling information]’, could I? And I like one-word titles. Cygnets are baby swans, and all kinds of cute. Love ‘em.

After I made icons of Melian and posted them, [info]alaniaflamestar requested icons of Arien, the Maia who guided the sun in Tolkien's mythology. (Appropriately, it is 36 degrees in Melbourne today, and it will be 38 on Saturday and Sunday.) I appreciate any feedback, and I might try doing more requests if anyone wants any. I do however plan to do icons of Morwen, Rian and the Finduilasses before you ask. If you take any, please tell me which ones and please credit me. I hope you like them!
