Today my fellow Australians vote on who's going to be Prime Minister. Not being of voting age, I can say with pleasure that I don't give a rat's arse. It won't last much longer, though. Next Fed Election I'll be voting so I suppose I'll have to start caring about it. I guess it's better than being under a dictatorship or something, though.

However, it's not the actual election as much as the weeks leading up to it that annoys me. For the past six weeks, every second ad on TV has claimed either that Young Marky can't handle the economy or Honest John ain't as honest as we've been led to believe. (If you don't know who I'm talking about, it doesn't really matter.) Also, I've been sorely tempted to ask the Greens people handing out pamphlets at the railway stations if they're made from the paper of plantations or old-growth forests. And when the Bonsai* attempts (and seems to succeed) in buying people's votes, I seriously worry for our political future.

Anyway, enough snarking about elections. Except they do lead into my next snarking subject.

Yesterday, I saw a political poster calling for a stop to logging old-growth forests in Tassie. This annoyed me.

Now, don't get me wrong, I have nothing against oldies (either types). It was the wording of the poster that I had problems with:

"Lets stop the logging of old-growth forests", or something to that effect.

Read it carefully...

I'm a stickler for spelling and grammar. Text messages and msns I can live with, hyperness can affect writing, I know. But when we're playing games of "dude, where's the apostrophes?" with political posters... no wonder the education system's screwed over. I worry. A lot.

And also, I'm expected to write a free verse poem based on one we've studied this semester over the weekend. Normally that wouldn't be a problem, since I like writing poetry, but poetic inspiration has been rather lacking of late. My brain is currently in "oh-shit-you're-SO-screwed" mode. It affects my mood.

No, I'm not always negative. But I find writing in my livejournal is a good stress-reliever and the bad vibes generally work their way into what I write. At least I haven't got into the gothic poems yet, although I did find a funny Darkly Gothic Poem Generator, which was fun. Anyway, I'm off to the Fringe Festival. Adios.

*The Bonsai = John Howard, current Prime Minister of Australia (see also Honest John). I'm not too fond of him. But why Bonsai, you ask? Check the dictionary, and under Bonsai you'll find "a little Bush". Ironic, no?

And I've just noticed that the clock's set to some weird time because Livejournal is American, I think. I'm a night person, but not that much...
