I like to think of this post not as insanely late for yuletide fics, but as a timely reminder that the archive is actually open until november, when Yuletide 2010 cranks up. Which I will totally be doing. This was my first year of Yuletide, and it was tremendous fun! (Except for the actual writing down of the fic, that happened, as always, on the day before it was due. Procrastination dies hard.) But the Yuletide reveal was truly wonderful, even though I wasn't there on the actual day. Yuletide is like getting your own Christmas present, and then being able to play with everyone else's too! So I have been spending a lot of time on the archive, reading things in fandoms I don't usually read, and collecting links. Here they are!

I wrote The Red Arrow for Thevina, a backstory fic about Rohan and Gondor becoming friends. Lots of obscure Tolkien details, be warned.

I received Jocasta's Soliloquy and a giftfic, Five Ways Medea Lost Herself (to/with Jason). Awesome ladies in Greek mythology, hurrah!

And now for the recs! Organised by fandom, under cuts because they are numerous.

Tsubame ni Naro Toki - Procne/Philomela/Tereus in modern Japan, told in haikus, and oh such beautiful language.

Tele - drabbles about Metamorphoses, my favourite is the first, about Hera.

Five Times Maia's Life Was Permanently Changed - in which Maia steps carefully around the gods and all their arguments, and lives her life mostly the way she wants to.

Introduction to the Intergalactic Exploits of Hercules, born Alcaeus, son of Zeus and Bearer of Hera's Flame - almost exactly what it says, it's Hercules as space opera. (Or the start of it, at least).

songs inside the fog inside the world - Andromeda gets interviewed, and has all sorts of issues. Which you'd expect, after being left to be eaten by a sea monster, and then being turned into a constellation.

A Future, No Future At All - Apollo messes with Cassandra, Artemis tries to help, things go wrong.

The First Place - Hera shows the rest of the gods who's really boss, and I'm not much of a Hera fan but I love her calling Zeus out.

Spinning Fate - Arachne and Niobe strike back at the gods.

In a moment's notice - modern day AU, the Trojan War as told from Helen's POV, and it made me like and sympathise with Helen *and* ship Helen/Menelaus, which is no small feat.

Cronus' Children - Zeus' winning the lordship of the universe, as seen through Hades' eyes. Also explains why Hades ended up being ruler of the underworld, and Demeter makes a cameo with unborn!Persephone.

The Fifth Task - Aphrodite has one last task for Pysche. Femmeslash and quite explicit.

Full of Grace - Aphrodite/Virgin Mary, yes really, very explicit. If reading about goddesses having lesbian sex offends you,  please steer clear, but there's some sly wit that I enjoyed.

----------

With life to live over, I'd do it again - AU mixed with 12th-century Mediterranean history, in which Roger is king of Tortall, George is pirate turned captain of his flagship, and Alanna is still Alanna.

nuns fret not at their convent's narrow walls - AU, Alanna chooses to be a guard at the Mother Goddess temple, and still meets George.

Dazzled - Jon and Alanna get into a fight about poetry. Or Delia. Hard to tell.

Armiger - Jon, Gary, Raoul and Alex are just beginning to be knights, and Alanna calls Jon on his latent jealousy.

Midwinter's Luck - in which Lerant is sulky.

Five Worlds in which Keladry of Mindelan did not become a Lady Knight - I'm a sucker for AUs, as you can see, and this has an awesome framing device of Kel and Co being old and irascible. Some of the worlds are happier than others, but the fourth broke my heart.

Travelling Towards Tomorrow - Neal's first year as a squire, with snark and sniffles.

----------

The Triumphs of the Amazon - three scenes acting as a prequel to A Midsummer Night's Dream. Hippolyta is awesome, Theseus appreciates it, and Oberon and Titania meddle in mortal affairs again.

As Garlic Cloves And Butter - Mercutio and Benvolio poke fun at Romeo behind his back. It's written as prose but could seamlessly be turned into a scene, and Mercutio has some prize lines, as always.

----------

The Wrath of Jon - Jonathan deals with a pie crisis, Jack's absense, plays power games with Liz and has a secret.

(Don't) Picture Me and You - Jack/Liz, which is not really my cup of tea (I want them to be friends forever and forever) but the details around the romance plot are perfect 30 Rock.

Better Than Coffee - in which it is shown, once again, that Liz and drugs (or Mexican energy drinks) should not mix.

Fangirls - Jack does something nice for Liz, and actually succeeds.

---------

Somewhat Akin to a Limpet - how Edmund Blackadder and Percy Percy met and became, well, friends is not the right word because it's onesided, but close enough. It's Edmund's POV and does an uncomfortably good job of portraying how snotty everyone is at fourteen (Edmund just never grew out of it, I suppose.)

Light and Literature - ficlet from Blackadder III, in which Blackadder and George commiserate over the declining quality of books.

Darling's Army - it's like a lost episode of Blackadder Goes Forth, in story format. To say any more would spoil the brilliance, but go read! Now!

Peace on Earth
- on the night of the Christmas Football Game, Blackadder and Darling have one night of peace themselves. Black humour and melancholy abound.

---------

Journal 2.414 - Hat Guy must get his hat back. Set in the Hat Guy/Hat Girl story between 'Journal 2' and 'Journal 3'.

Scones and Violence - Hat Guy and Hat Girl are affectionate and violent, and Scone-Obsessed Beret Man is caught up in it.

And that will be enough for today. Incidentally, happy Republic Day and happy Australia Day, if you're celebrating them.
